CCGH Kick Off: Professor Glenn Altschuler

We are thrilled to welcome Professor Glenn Altschuler, MA '73, PhD '76 to the area for a timely and sure to be exciting discussion around the upcoming election process as he talks to us about "Tactics, Timing, and Turnout in the Election of 2008: A Glimpse into the Future."

Professor Altschuler is the Thomas and Dorothy Litwin Professor of American Studies, Dean of Continuing Education and Summer Session (Ph.D., Cornell University). His areas of interest include American culture, American politics, American popular culture and the history of education in America. You may read Professor Altschuler's biography here.

We'll meet at 7pm-9pm at the historic Asylum Hill Congregational Church just west of the Hartford train station.

Directions: From I-84 take Exit 48 (Asylum Street Exit). Turn West onto Asylum Street; bear right at the "Y" onto Asylum Ave. - continue 4 blocks. Asylum Hill Church is a large brownstone church on the right at 814 Asylum Ave. There is a free parking in a well lit, attended parking lot on the right side of the church. The entrance to Drew Hall is accessible from the parking lot.

Cost is $5 for members and $7 for non-members. This event may be paid for on line.

"Cornell Admission Event Near You"

We will join Brown, Columbia and the University of Chicago for an admissions program that includes an introduction to each university/college, a Q&A session about selective admission with admissions representatives from each of the colleges, and then a general college fair.

A 7:30 pm start is planned at the Hartford Marriott Downtown (near the Hartford Convention Center).

Cornell Football vs. Yale

Join the rest of CCGH as well as the Cornell Clubs of Coastal Connecticut and Fairfield County to cheer on the football team.

All Cornell alumni and guests are welcome!

Greet the football team and coaches at the Trumbull Marriott on Friday, September 21st, at 6:30 pm.

The pre-game Tailgate is being held in D Lot by Central Avenue, opposite Yale Bowl. Look for the Red CFA tent as you drive in the gate. No response is necessary - just show up! Parking is free.

The tailgate, sponsored by the Cornell Football Association, is free to those who wear red!

The menu includes grilled ribs, chicken marsala, pulled pork, sausage and peppers, salads, hot dogs, desserts, water, lemonade, soda and beer (adults only). The tailgate is being catered by Steve '76 and Rindy '77 Garcia and Rob Ryder '91.

Directions: Wilbur Cross to Exit 58 to Route 34 East; 4 miles to Central Avenue, to D Lot (not C Lot). Alternate route: I-95 (North or South) to Ella Grasso Boulevard, to Route 34 West, to Central Avenue to D Lot.

Attendees should purchase tickets themselves at the Yale Ticket Office (203-432-1400, Monday-Friday, 10:00 am-4:30 pm) - request tickets on the "Cornell side", on line or at the ticket window on game day (cash only).

Hike to Heublein Tower at Talcott Mountain State Park

Peter Eisenman Architecture Lecture

The University of Hartford, Department of Architecture, has graciously invited members of CCGH to participate in a lecture by internationally renowned architect and Louis Kahn Professor of Architecture at Yale, Peter Eisenman '54, B Arch '55.

Professor Eisenman recently completed two high profile and award-winning projects: the stadium for the Arizona Cardinals in Arizona and the Memorial for Murdered Jews in Germany.

The lecture will begin with "Being Eisenman," the Cornell-oriented video exploring Eisenman's lifelong connection to Cornell, produced by local alumni couple, Maddy '65 and Phil '62, B.Arch '64 Handler.

A small private reception, where attendees can chat informally with Professor Eisenman, will follow the lecture.

Seating is limited for this event, with priority being given to 2007-08 CCGH members and Cornell AAP alumni. Join CCGH today to take advantage of member pricing and special member-only events such as this.

Red Hot Hockey: Cornell vs. BU at Madison Square Garden

Join fellow alumni and friends at Madison Square Garden in New York City, for the renewal of one of the fiercest rivalries in college hockey when the Cornell Big Red men's hockey team takes on the Boston University Terriers.

Cornellians everywhere are invited to bring the spirit of the Lynah Faithful and Cornell to Madison Square Garden.

Face off is at 8:00 pm.

Coach Mike Schafer '86 will deliver remarks at 6:30 pm.

A Big Red Pre-game Pep Rally and Reception will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m., also in Madison Square Garden. Online registration for the reception and pep-rally will be available at alumni.cornell.edu in the near future. Cost will be $30 per adult and $15 for children 10 and under and will include hamburgers, hot dogs, salads and non-alcoholic beverages. Cash bar will be available.

Activities for everyone include video games and visits by the Pep Band and Big Red Bears!

Reserved tables will be available on request for Classes, Clubs and other alumni organizations that plan to gather as a group at the pre-game rally and reception.

  • He provides students with an effective background in a wide range of biomaterials that are currently used in human body repair
  • He teaches a course that integrates biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering in the study of modern biomaterials and medical devices for reconstructing or replacing injured, diseased, or aged human tissues and organs
  • He holds many patents
  • He is celebrating his 30th year, having joined the Cornell faculty in 1978 after completing postdoctoral research on biomaterials for maxillofacial prosthesis at the Medical Center of the University of Alabama in Birmingham
  • He is a Professor of Fiber Science and Apparel Design. The Department provides an opportunity to study and research fibers, fabrics, apparel, and the apparel industry from design, management, historical and scientific perspectives
  • He is Chih-Chang Chu and he is coming to Hartford
